Neosho Memorial is proud to serve as a rural teaching facility
for seven college programs including future physicians undergoing
medical training. Medical Center staff work to teach new doctors,
nurses and allied health professionals how to become the BEST providers.
History
In 1903, Dr. L.D. Johnson established a private hospital in Chanute,
Kansas. When he decided to close his facility, a citizens-lead campaign
funded the building of Neosho Memorial Hospital which began in 1947.
On January 14, 1951, Neosho Memorial Hospital opened as a 51-bed
general hospital dedicated as a memorial to the men and women of
Neosho County who lost their lives during World War II.
Today, Neosho Memorial continues its history of service to area
families. The Medical Center is undergoing a $20 million dollar
renovation project creating all new patient care areas including
a new Emergency Department, Inpatient Unit, Intensive Care Unit,
Outpatient Observation Unit, and Nutrition Services Department.
In addition, the Laboratory and Imaging Services Departments will
be renovated and expanded.
This not-for-profit, county-owned critical access hospital is governed
by a county commission appointed Board of Trustees. It is with pride
that Neosho Memorial does not require tax dollars for general operations
of the Medical Center. And it is with dedication that the staff
pledges to uphold their commitment to Bring Service and Excellence
Together.
